May 25, 2022. The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) together with Department of Agriculture CALABARZON and registered organic operators successfuly held the Harvest Festival to signal the end of the 1st Organic Soil Amendment DerbyMay 23, 2022 at the Lipa Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (LARES), Lipa, Batangas.
A total of 164.85 kilograms of Pakchoy were harvested from approximately 400 sq.m. of field at LARES devoted to the 1st OSA Derby.
Ten registered organic operators participated in the activity and a total of 15 organic soil amendment products and their package of technology (POT) were applied for the leafy vegetable “Pakchoi”.
“The Department of Agriculture and BAFS will exert more efforts to further expand this kind of activity in other crops and areas. I hope that this will encourage our registered organic operators to continue our extended partnership in similar activities”, said BAFS Director Vivencio Mamaril.
Basically, the OSA Derby was seen as a good strategy to promote the use, benefits and availability of organic soil amendments registered with BAFS. Aside from fostering collaboration among our key players, the activity also created opportunities for the registered operators to expand their markets and network. . This OSA Derby really showcased the potential of organic soil amendments, thus contributing to the promotion of organic agriculture as a whole. 33
