KNOW YOUR FRUITS, UNDERSTAND CROPS’ MRLs

KNOW YOUR FRUITS, UNDERSTAND CROPS’ MRLs

April 26, 2022. Have you ever been alarmed with news circulating on the use of pesticides in fruits or vegetables?  Do you want to understand more about pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs)?

This month, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS) releases three posters to promote common understanding of pesticide MRLs in bananas, pineapples, and mangoes.

MRLs, according to Codex, is the highest level of pesticide residue that is legally tolerated in or on food and feed when pesticides are applied correctly in accordance with Good Agricultural Practice (GAP).  Since exposure to large quantities of pesticides or above the allowed MRL can cause adverse effects on human health, farmers are encouraged to comply with GAP.

BAFS develops various knowledge products to promote common understanding of the provisions of Philippine National Standards (PNS).  Posters provide a simple and easy-to-understand visual representation of the PNS.

More posters will be released in the coming months, so keep an eye out. For the latest news and updates, like the BAFS official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/da.bafs.  You can also read the posters and other published KPs on the Bureau’s website at www.bafs.da.gov.ph. ###
