BAFS explores collaboration with the UP – Philippine Risk Profiling Project

November 9, 2021. The Department of Agriculture (DA)-Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards or BAFS spearheaded a virtual meeting with the University of the Philippines - Philippine Risk Profiling Project (PRPP) on November 5, 2021 the meeting explored future collaborations for the utilization of project’s outputs for standards development and policy recommendations.

The Department of Science and Technology is funding the  three-year project that aimed to assist the national food safety risk managers in the identification and prioritization of food safety issues. The meeting considered the following:  Presentation of the PRPP and its ways forward, Proposed Mentoring of BAFS on Risk Profiling, and Proposed Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) proposal on Risk Profiling.

During the meeting, the PRPP Project Leader, Prof. Abigail S. Rustia presented the accomplishments and major recommendations of the project. In the end, BAFS decided to draft a project proposal on the mentoring of Laboratory Services Division staff and other BAFS technical personnel on risk assessment and consider submitting a project proposal to the Bureau of Agricultural Research.

UP and BAFS agreed to continue their discussions in the future.
