Poult-rific and Egg-cellent Practices webinar, a success, 2,257 stakeholders participating

November 11, 2021. Asked on ‘ “What is the safest part of the chicken?”. This was one of the questions raised during the 2-day webinar on the Philippine National Standards or PNS for Poultry Farming.

More than two thousand  participants from the academe, private organizations, farmers and farmer cooperatives, and students participated in the recently concluded “Poult-rific and Egg-cellent Practices: A Seminar-Awareness on Standards related to Poultry Farming and Egg Production” held on November 9-10, 2021.  Dr. Glenn M. Reyes and Dr. Jesadel Soriano of the Bureau of Animal Industry and Dr. Gari Pellinor U. Hernandez and Dr. Alpha M. Lanuza of the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards as resource speakers.

Going back to the question on the safes part of the chicken,  Dr. Lanuza responded, “The food safety doesn’t rely on the parts of the chicken, but it would depend on the handling of the product. We have food safety hazards which include the physical, microbiological and chemical hazards and all parts of the chicken are prone to those hazards. In food safety, we rely mainly on the contamination of the food product and not necessarily on the part of the chicken.”

As a concluding note, Assistant Director Mary Grace Mandigma highlighted the BAFS webinars’ successes in promoting PNS to stakeholders and also expressed her gratitude to the participants for their continued support of the Bureau’s endeavors.
