BAFS writers set to provide relevant, timely, and clear information

October 15, 2021.  The Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (DA-BAFS) conducted a training-workshop on Technical Writing on October 11-15, 2021 at the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel, Subic, Zambales to capacitate the BAFS personnel and to understand the need to communicate efficiently and effectively as an organization, whose stakeholders rely largely on the degree of information it provides.

Ms. Jhomai S. Canlas and Ms. Jessa Mae D. Gabon from the Public Relations and Communications team of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) served as resource persons. They discussed various topics related to basic technical writing, press release writing, including techniques on how to create newsworthy articles, and the sample of a Communications Guidelines Manual.

Present during the opening program are Director Myer G. Mula, who initiated and conceptualized the conduct of this training-workshop, and Ms. Karen Kristine A. Roscom, Chief of the Standards Development Division, who also served as in-house expert and facilitator.

Majority of the participants were designated writers and selected personnel from the divisions – seven (7) from the Standards Development Division, six (6) from the Organic Agriculture Division, five (5) from the Information and Communications Unit, four (4) from the Technical Services Division, three (3) from the Laboratory Services Division, and one (1) from the Administrative Support Services.

The activity marks the first in a series of Learning and Development courses related to writing to supplement the BAFS commitment to provide information that are more relevant, timely and clear.

BAFS is expected to be accountable in the dissemination of credible information relative to developed standards and regulations to help build stakeholders’ confidence and support for all its undertaking. ###
