The Standards Development Division (SDD) of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (DA-BAFS) held a Sectoral Meeting for Philippine National Standards (PNS) under the Crops Category on March 14, 2024. The meeting was held at the DA-BPI PPSSD Seminar Room located at PPSSD Building, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City. This activity marked the second in its series of 2024 Sectoral Meetings with academe/research institutions, private sector organizations, and civil society organizations.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various academe and research institutions, particularly from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)-Institute of Plant Breeding (IPB), and UPLB-Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Center (PHTRC).
Ms. Koko Aborido, overseer of the Crops Section of DA-BAFS-SDD, presented an overview of the mandates, key strategies, and programs of the DA-BAFS, aligning them with the current strategic objectives and thrusts of the DA. Plans, activities, and programs (PAP) related to the development of crop standards for CY 2025-2028 were also presented to the participants for comments and recommendations. Participants expressed their comments and recommendations on the work priorities for standards development, taking into consideration the current academic/research and industry needs, practices, and findings. ###
