PNS ANATOMY Chapter 5 – Main Component 1: The PNS Scope
Have you ever wondered what PNS SCOPE means? This chapter guides what elements are incorporated and omitted when drafting the PNS scope.
A PNS Scope generally indicates what the standard covers or does not cover, including specifications and its application. It does not contain requirements, permissions, or recommendations. The following are commonly used subject subscriptions in writing the scope of the PNS:
This standard covers…;
This document specifies…;
This document establishes…;
This document gives guidelines for…; or
This document defines terms…
In addition, the PNS Scope also implies statements of applicability regarding which aspects the document shall cover or not, using the following statements:
This document is applicable to …;
This document does not apply to …; or
This code applies to…
Always remember that when reading the scope of a PNS, the standard’s purpose and significance, coverage and exclusions, technical specifications, and descriptions of the application are introduced.
In this section, specific requirements, permissions, or recommendations, are not included. The focus is on providing concise and comprehensive guidance on the PNS purpose, coverage, and application.
