The DA-BAFS participated in the 10th Meeting of the Expert Working Group on ASEAN Good Animal Husbandry Practices (EWG-ASEAN GAHP) held online on August 12, 2026.

 

The meeting provided a platform for ASEAN Member States (AMS) to discuss updates and technical matters concerning the continued implementation and harmonization of Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) across the region. Among the key agenda items were the development of the ASEAN General Guideline on Animal Welfare, the progress of the Plan of Action on ASEAN Cooperation in GAHP for CY 2021–2025, and the alignment of national standards with the ASEAN GAHP for priority animal commodities, including layers and broilers, pigs, beef cattle and meat buffalo, and sheep and goats.

 

As part of its continuing commitment to regional cooperation, the Philippines, together with Thailand, will facilitate a workshop in April 2027 to review and finalize the ASEAN General Guideline on Animal Welfare for cattle and broiler chicken production systems. The Philippines will likewise conduct stakeholder consultations to gather technical inputs to support its position in the development and finalization of the guidelines.

 

Through its active participation in the EWG-ASEAN GAHP, DA-BAFS continues to support regional cooperation and the harmonization of science-based standards and guidelines for responsible and sustainable animal production across ASEAN.
