ORTIGAS, PASIG - As part of the EU-Trade Related Technical Assistance 3 (EU-TRTA 3) Project, the Department of Health – Food and Drug Administration (DOH-FDA) spearheaded the Fundamentals Training on the Philippine Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (PhilRASFF) last March 22 to 24, 2017 at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Ortigas Center, Pasig City. The said training was conducted to orient the food safety regulatory agencies (FSRAs) and other relevant agencies on the effective usage of the PhilRASFF.  BAFS, as the competent authority in the development of standards for agriculture and fishery products, was identified as one of the Technical Support Agency in the implementation of PhilRASFF.

Mr. Sebastien Rahoux, the EU-TRTA 3 Short Term Expert who helped in the development of the PhilRASFF, facilitated the training. He emphasized that the tool was developed in order to have rapid exchange of information on food and feed safety notifications and actions between and among competent authorities.

BAFS participated both in the user and manager level of training wherein the participants were taught on the steps in creating and validating a notification and on how to classify PhilRASFF notifications (alert or information) depending on various situations. Likewise, participants were immersed in a hands-on training on the logical steps in creating and verifying notifications in the PhilRASFF following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
